Sigma Pi Chapter Fund raising success stories:
Bookstore Bag Check.
At the beginning of each semester, AGS and our campus bookstore work together to staff the bookstore with extra helpers. They help provide crowd control, security, and they staff a book bag check area outside the bookstore. The bookstore pays the club the hourly salary the workers earn, but it doesnít have to pay FICA or any benefits. It is very short term work, usually only one or two weeks, but the chapter makes about $700 each semester toward scholarships. The chapter members have a chance to pass out the AGS membership fliers and promote AGS while they work. Since it is only a short time just before and at the beginning of the semester, it doesnít cut into study time during the semester.
Flowers for Scholars
At campus graduation ceremonies each spring, AGS sets up a booth and sells flowers, bouquets, balloons, and sometimes leis to family and friends who come on campus to watch the graduation ceremonies. This makes about $400-600 in a very short time period. The only thing we have to be careful about is not to over order from the floral supplier. For our campus with about 900 graduates, we sell about 35 large bouquets for $15 each, 75 single flowers (rose, $7, carnation or Gerbera daisy, $5 each), mylar balloons, cost plus $2-5 depending on size, and orchid leis for $20. We have a local supplier for the leis and I will be happy to send anyone that information if you wish. She also makes leis out of large carnations. We have found that the Asian students in particular love a lei with red in it because that means ìgood luckî and ìsuccessî. The carnation leis are more sturdy than the orchid leis.
